Professor Peter O'Grady is a Professor of Engineering at The University
of Iowa, which he joined in 1995. Prior to that he was a Professor at North
Carolina State University. He has bachelors and masters degrees from University
of Cambridge and a Ph.D. from the University of Nottingham.
Peter O'Grady is Associate Editor of Journal of Manufacturing
Systems; a member of the Editorial Board of International Journal of Computer
Integrated Manufacturing; a member of the Editorial Board of International
Journal of Production Planning and Control; a member of the Editorial Board of
Journal of Computers and Industrial Engineering; and a member of the Editorial
Board of Engineering Design and Automation. He has been Editor, Design,
Transactions of Institute of Industrial Engineers; and USA Editor of Journal of
Design and Manufacturing. He has received the Norman A. Dudley Award for his
paper "Feature-Based Design of Electronic Assemblies".
He has active research activities in supply chain
design and operation, modular products, collaborative systems for design and
manufacturing, 3D imaging for medical applications, remote collaborative design
for modular products, genetic algorithms for design for assembly,
object-oriented database systems, product visualization, and distributed design.
Dr. O'Grady works closely with industry and has received substantial research
funding as Principal Investigator. He teaches at both graduate and undergraduate
levels and has received the Clifton A. Anderson Outstanding Faculty Award for
Excellence in Teaching and Education. He received the IE Professor of the Year
Award in 2006 from the IIE Student Chapter at The University of Iowa. He was
faculty advisor to the UoI Student Chapter of IIE for 2002 -2006. The Chapter
received the IIE national Gold Award in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006.
