Early/Late Participation
Request form
Students may request to walk in a ceremony that differs from when they complete their requirements for degree. Please send a request to the Engineering Registrar using the form at the link above. There is no summer commencement ceremony therefore, these students may request to walk in the fall or spring ceremonies.

Participation Information
Attire:  Purchasing information. Graduates are required to wear a cap, tassel & gown. Make sure your tassel hangs to your right side.
Group Photo: There will be a class photo on the stairs between the first and second levels at 10:45.
Check-in: Graduates must report to Strauss Rehearsal Hall by 11:00 a.m. to check-in. You will be gifted a medallion and pin when you pick up your name card.
Processional:  Assemble by department/program and then alphabetically by last name. A marshal will lead you to the seating area.  Please remain standing until the Dean directs you to sit.
Conferring of Degrees:  Staff will release graduates row by row to receive their individual recognition. You will hand your name card to an engineering official before crossing the stage.
Recessional:  A marshal will lead you out row by row. Please wait for the last person in the row ahead of you before exiting your row.

Video Streaming
The engineering commencement ceremony will be broadcast live on IowaNow, and the video will be posted to the University of Iowa YouTube channel within 24 hours.

Photos
Professional photos taken by Flash Photography will be available for purchase to each graduate participating in the ceremony. Flash Photography will provide a complimentary proof using the contact information on the back of the name cards.

Distinction
Students graduating within the top 10% of the class, as measured by GPA, will be recognized as graduating with Distinction. Three stars designates Highest Distinction, or the top 2%; two stars designates High Distinction, or the next 3%, and one star designates Distinction, or the next 5%. The Registrar's Office will send these stars by U.S. Mail to your residing address along with instructions on how to wear them.

Diplomas & Degree Audits
Diplomas will be mailed out after final grades have been entered and degree audits are complete. Please make sure your forwarding address is updated in the MyUI system.
