FIRST Tech Challenge: Remote Tournaments

FTC-Iowa thanks the students, mentors, coaches and volunteers for their understanding and flexibility as the challenges of the current season and the pandemic are being worked through. The goal for FTC-Iowa is to give the best opportunity to everyone, while taking necessary safety precautions for all involved.

As of Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, the decision was made for all League Tournaments for ULTIMATE GOAL to be held remotely. There are a lot of questions teams/coaches/volunteers may have regarding remote events, and they are below.

Questions & Answers

  • How will advancement criteria work? How many teams will advance from each League Tournament to Super Qualifier?
Teams are *highly encouraged* to read Game Manual Part 1: Remote & Game Manual Part 2: Remote regarding advancement criteria.
  • Will there be alliances?
Teams are encouraged to read Game Manual Part 1: Remote
  • How long will we have to enter matches?
Like the remote meets, teams will have a span of 7 days to enter scores. We will have a Driver/Coach meeting at the beginning of the week.
  • How will judging work?
Similar to traditional events, teams will be assigned an interview time on Saturday. Teams will also need to participate in Virtual Pit Events in which judges can do a second round of interviews. Teams will need to submit their documentation (Engineering Portfolio, Judging Feedback Form, Control Award Application) the Wednesday prior to their scheduled Judge Interview date.
  • When will Driver/Coaches meeting take place?
The Driver/Coaches meeting will take place the Thursday prior to the league tournament week (see chart below). Due to the number of zoom capacity and the number of teams competing each week, there will be a capacity limit on the number of attendees for these Driver/Coaches meetings. No more than three attendees per team for the Driver/Coaches meetings.
  • When will we know the time of our judges interview?
Similar to a traditional event, times for the teams interviews with the judges will be sent the week prior to the event. Treat the Remote League Tournaments similar to a Traditional event: set aside a good portion of competition Saturday and judge interview times cannot be changed once they are distributed.

Teams are encouraged to read "How to Prepare for a REMOTE League Tournament" a week or so prior to the event.
