Who are you?
    -Name: Aileen Ponce
    -Major: Biomedical Engineering
    -Year: Sophomore
    -Hometown: Waukegan, Illinois
What is one piece of advice you would give to an incoming freshman?
Take advantage of all the resources that are available! College can be tough to navigate at first but there are so many people available to help.
What organizations outside the college of engineering do you belong to?
I am part of the Pen Pals program and the DeGowin club, as well as a MESA tutor.
How are you an "engineer ... and something more"?
When I’m not studying engineering you can find me tutoring students from grades 5-12 or exploring Lake McBride.
Is there something else you'd like to tell us about yourself?
Being a first generation college student I was really nervous about what the college experience would be like, but Iowa’s school of engineering has been really helpful. P.s, I love skateboarding and am a fan of calculator watches!

What is your favorite part about being a student at The University of Iowa?
Everyone is really friendly and there is always something fun and free to do on campus. There are no fans like hawkeye fans!
Who is your favorite professor and why?

My favorite professor so far has been Justin Garvin. He was the professor for my Introduction to Engineering Computing class. Professor Garvin was super funny and always made himself accessible in case any of us needed help. He also presented all of the material in a way that we could understand and always asked if we had any questions. As a person that struggles with coding, he made the course much more enjoyable for me.
What has been your favorite course?
My favorite course so far has been Improv for Engineers and the Curious. It is a “Be-Creative” course and it was something completely out of my comfort zone. The class was filled tons of activities and provided much needed stress relief.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time at The University of Iowa?

In my free time, I enjoy hammocking with my friends in front of the pentacrest. If the weather isn’t so nice I like to watch movies at the IMU with my friends. It’s awesome because you can watch the latest movies without having to leave campus and it’s a nice break from studying.
