What is one piece of advice you would give to an incoming freshman?
Take advantage of all of the resources that are available! College can be tough to navigate at first but there are so many people available to help.
What organizations outside the college of engineering do you belong to?
I am part of the Pen Pals program and the DeGowin club, as well as a MESA tutor.
How are you an "engineer ... and something more"?
When I’m not studying engineering you can find me tutoring students from grades 5-12 or exploring Lake McBride. I am also an RA for the People in Engineering Living Learning Community.
Is there something else you'd like to tell us about yourself?
Being a first generation college student I was really nervous about what the college experience would be like, but Iowa’s school of engineering has been really helpful.

What is your favorite part about being a student at The University of Iowa?
Everyone is really friendly and there is always something fun and free to do on campus. There are no fans like hawkeye fans!
Who is your favorite professor and why?

My favorite professor so far has been Seth Dillard. He was the professor for my Biomaterials and Biomechanics class. Professor Dillard was super funny and always made himself accessible in case anyone needed help. He also presented all of the material in a way that was easy to understand and related it to topics we had already explored. The class, as well as Professor Dillard helped me figure out what topics within my major interested me most.
What has been your favorite course?
My favorite course so far has been Biomaterials and Biomechanics. In the class we were able to explore the engineering side of the human body and how medical devices are used to correct problems that correspond to both the cardiovascular and musculoskeletal portions of the body.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time at The University of Iowa?

In my free time, I enjoy hammocking with my friends in front of the pentacrest or going for a walk at City Park! If the weather isn’t so nice, I like to watch movies at the IMU with my friends. It’s awesome because you can watch the latest movies without having to leave campus and it’s a nice break from studying.
