What is one piece of advice you would give to an incoming freshman?
Take advantage of as many opportunities and resources as you can. You never know where an opportunity can lead, or who you’ll meet along the way!
What organizations outside the college of engineering do you belong to?
I’m a Student Leader Board Member at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, a member and participant of Dance Marathon, and a leader for OnIowa!
How are you an "engineer ... and something more"?

Outside of engineering studies, you can find me at UIHC, whether it be volunteering or working as a Research Intern, or simply playing pickup sports at Hubbard Park with my friends.
Have you done research with a professor? If so, what department was the professor in and what was your research about?
My research is through the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. We are working on various clinical research projects, including the implementation of diabetic foot ulcer imaging software, a Fitbit-based racing application to encourage exercise, and a fall-risk analysis project.
Is there something else you'd like to tell us about yourself?
My family consists of mostly Iowa State alumni, but don’t worry! After moving to Iowa City, I quickly became a Hawkeye at heart. Also, if you see me around, don’t hesitate to say hello!
What is your favorite part about being a student at The University of Iowa?
My favorite part about being a student at the University of Iowa is the atmosphere. Ask anyone, and they’ll tell you there is something special about Iowa City! We have the buzz and excitement of a really big university, but then with being an engineer, we have the opportunities to develop close relationships with fellow students, faculty, and staff.
Who is your favorite professor and why?

My favorite professor so far has been Ana Fernández, who taught my Spanish Speaking class in the spring of 2018. She was always very enthusiastic and passionate in class, and got to know every one of her students. She’s one of those professors you’ll never forget!
What has been your favorite course?
My favorite course has been Foundations of Biology. My passion for biology in high school is what drew me to Biomedical Engineering, and I knew after taking Foundations that I had made the right decision. Dr. Brenda Leicht - my professor for the course - was also amazing!

What do you enjoy doing in your free time at The University of Iowa?

In my free time, my favorite activities are pickup sports. I love getting a group together and going to play ultimate frisbee at Hubbard Park. It’s great because you get to spend quality time with friends, enjoy nice weather (most of the time), and get a great workout!
