Who are you?

Name: Sarah Cooper

Major: BME

Minors/Certificates: none, but on the Pre-PA track

Hometown: Portland, OR

What is one piece of advice you would give to an incoming freshman?

Learn how you best study! Don’t be afraid to switch up your study habits from what you did in high school; what may worked then most likely won’t work now.

What organizations outside the college of engineering do you belong to?

Minority Association of Pre-Health Students (MAPS), I’m also an RA on campus!

Have you had any international experience? If so, where did you go, for how long, and what did you do?

I studied abroad in Rome, Italy over the summer after my freshman year. I took Statics (a fundamental Engineering class), which was very difficult! My biggest advice would be to take general education courses abroad; cramming a semester-long engineering class in 5 weeks was very difficult.

How are you an "engineer ... and something more"?

I’m an engineer...and an RA on campus!

What is your favorite part about being a student at The University of Iowa?

I love how supportive the COE is for all of their students. We have the same goal: to graduate college as a prepared engineer.

Who is your favorite professor and why?

Prof. Seth Dillard because he is so friendly and makes class interesting! He genuinely wants his students to learn the material...and enjoy it too!

What has been your favorite course?

Biomaterials and Biomechanics

What do you enjoy doing in your free time at The University of Iowa?

Photography, spend time with friends, go to the rec center, and be outside!
