Kayla Racinowski

Kayla Racinowski is participating in her first internship, working in University of Iowa assistant professor Albert Ratner’s lab. She is studying lab-scale gasification of corn as a biomass. Her goal is to come up with a product that can be cleaned and used as biofuel.

“I actually really like the combustion part of it,” Racinowski said. “I find it interesting. It’s actually what I’d like to do for the rest of my life.”

Racinowski will be a junior at the University of Iowa, majoring in chemical engineering. She hasn’t decided whether she will go on to graduate school or not but said that she would likely get her masters in mechanical engineering at the UI, where she is a member of the Theta Tau engineering fraternity and vice president of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
