The University of Iowa Office of the Vice President for Research & Economic Development, in collaboration with the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and the Office of Strategic Communication, developed a workshop for small groups of faculty to gather insights about communicating their research to non-peer and non-expert audiences.

The workshop offers participants practical tips for crafting and honing their messages, interviewing with journalists, and presenting their research to a variety of audiences. At the end of the session, faculty members recorded a brief video of their research.

College of Engineering faculty members who provided recordings were Gabriele Villarini, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering; Tim Marler, senior research scientist, Virtual Soldier Research Program; David Cwiertny, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering; and Sarah Vigmostad, assistant professor of biomedical engineering.
