The College of Engineering undergraduate commencement was held Sunday, December 17, at Hancher Auditorium, Iowa City, IA, celebrating the graduation of 78 seniors.

Cecilia Wolf, a senior in civil engineering, gave the graduating senior address.  

Featured speaker was Engineering alumnus Mark Wiesner, James B. Duke Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Duke University.  Wiesner also was inducted into the college’s Distinguished Engineering Alumni Academy.

Siddig Siddig was chosen through nomination by the senior class to receive the Engineering Student Council graduating senior award.

Sydney Knox graduated with highest distinction.  Olivia Flamme graduated with high distinction.  Rachel Hageman, Jacob Petrak, and Jennifer Jeffers graduated with distinction.  

Students graduating with university honors were Carrie Lindberg, Olivia Flamme, Gabrielle Armetta, Abdualrahman Ismail, Siddig Siddig, Zachary Swanson and Jennifer Jeffers.  

Kevin Knoernschild earned a BSE degree in biomedical engineering and a BA degree in music.  Siddig Siddig earned a BSE degree in industrial engineering and a BBA in finance with distinction.  

Forty-two graduates earned at least one minor in one of nine different areas – business administration (12), chemistry (3), computer science (5), French (1), Mathematics (24), philosophy (1), psychology (1), German (20) and Spanish (1). Ten earned two minors and one had three minors.

Daniel Condon earned a Certificate in Sustainability.  Kirk Heck, Samuel Maloof, and Cecilia Wolf earned a Technical Entrepreneurship Certificate.  Christopher Lamptey earned a Certificate in Wind Energy.

Companies hiring graduates include Eaton, Medical Murray, Pinnacle Engineering, CIVCO, City of West Des Moines, LJB, John Deere, Emerson Electric, Medtronic, United States Postal Office, Hormel Foods, Burns & McDonnell, Shive-Hattery, Cargill, Royal Bank of Canada, Mortenson, Rockwell Collins, and SoCore Energy, Produce Pro, NSK, XL Specialized Trailers and the University of Iowa.  

All university ceremonies will be rebroadcast on UITV within 24 hours of the event. In addition, each ceremony will be posted online and will be accessible via the UI YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/user/universityofiowa) website within 24 hours.

Graduate Commencement was held Friday, December 15.  Doctor of Philosophy degrees were conferred on 10 in Engineering.  Master of Science degrees were conferred on 22.
