The University of Iowa Baja Car Team participated May 16-20 in the Baja SAE competition at Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, KS.

The competition allows students to test their engineering skills in a battle of endurance on rugged terrain. Approximately 100 teams from across the U.S. and five other countries competed, totaling nearly 1,600 competitors.

The event is one of three regional competitions held each year in North America to simulate real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges.

As part of the competition, engineering students design and build an off-road vehicle powered by a 10-horsepower Intek Model 20 engine donated by Briggs & Stratton Corp. They then compete against one another to have their design accepted for manufacture by a fictitious firm.
