Dr. Douglas Mupasiri, professor and head of mathematics at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI), will be the featured speaker January 20 at a STEM Celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr.  The event will be held at 4:00 p.m. in the Summers Electronic Classroom, 2229 Seamans Center.

The title of Mupasiri’s talk will be “Commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in a Time of Uncertainty and Cynicism.”

Mupasiri has published papers on the geometry of Banach spaces and shape preserving operators. He has served as a graduate and undergraduate mentor for many years, and continues to participate in a number of efforts with the goal of increasing the number of students from underrepresented groups who pursue graduate work in STEM disciplines. He is a member of the UNI team of trained facilitators on the National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) model for diversity inclusion.

Mupasiri’s research interests at UNI include functional analysis (Banach space theory, locally convex space theory), measure theory, topology, descriptive set theory, and probability theory.
