Andrew Kusiak, professor of mechanical and industrial engineering, presented a plenary address November 4-7 on "Manufacturing: What Comes Next?" at the 22nd International

Conference on Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management 2015 in Guangzhou, China.

Kusiak's presentation outlined the future of manufacturing, including emerging technologies and product markets with many of the concepts illustrated with current industrial practices. He also covered how manufacturing is evolving and the rate and type of changes will be profoud for years to come.  New materials (e.g. smart materials) and processes (hybrids of additive and subtractive manufacturing) will lead to design of products with unimaginable functionality and adaptability.

The conference was sponsored by the Chinese Industrial Engineering Institution, CMES, and organized by Guangdong University of Technology in Guangzhou.
