Nicaraguan human rights activist Maria Luisa Acosta will deliver an Environmental Engineering & Science special seminar from 12:40-1:40 p.m. April 14
Acosta will speak on "The Indigenous Peoples of Nicaragua an the Role of the Inter-American System of Human Rights." The Inter-American for the Promotion and Protections of Human Rights has played a determinative role in the inclusion of collective rights for Indigenous Peoples an Afro-descendent Communities in the Constitution and legislation of Nicaragua.
The seminar is co-sponsored by the UI Center for Global and Regional Environmental Research, UI Center for Human Rights, the Iowa City Foreign Relations Council, and the UI International Law Society.
