The College of Engineering undergraduate commencement was held Sunday, December 18, at Hancher Auditorium, Iowa City, IA, celebrating the graduation of 122 seniors.

Featured speaker was Engineering alumna Mona Garvin, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering and researcher at the UI Institute for Biomedical Imaging. Garvin, who holds BS and BSE degrees from 2003, an MS degree from 2004, and a PhD degree from 2008, is the 2013 recipient of the college’s Teaching Award.

Mallory RaNae Tollefson was chosen through nomination by the senior class, to receive the Engineering Student Council Outstanding Senior Award, presented by Mariama Corneh, council president.

Candidates graduating with highest distinction were Jiawen Sun and Leah Marie VanDenBosch. Graduating with highest distinction requires a cumulative grade point average of 3.85 or higher.

Graduating with distinction were Alexandra Bartlett, Aaron Boesen, Mallory RaNae Tollefson, Conrad Sever Thompson, and Wenqing Ju. Graduating with distinction requires a cumulative grade point average of 3.65-3.74/4.0.

Students graduating with University honors were Alexandra Bartlett, Jonathon Brody Tessmann, Mallory RaNae Tollefson, Andrea Patricia Caceres, and Bailey Krstic.

Students graduating with honors in their major were Jessica Mosqueda Alexandra Bartlett, Aaron Boesen, Mallory RaNae Tollefson, and Andrea Patricia Caceres.

Five students earned dual degrees with second majors.  They are Lan Cao, Alexandra Bartlett, Devyn Patrick Lewis, Joshua Michael Svenson, and Nicholas J. Sagartz.

Sixty-seven graduates earned at least one minor in one of nine different areas. thirty had two minors and one had three minors.

Graduating with a certificate in sustainability were Christopher Brown, Bailey Krstic, and Justin Williams.

Graduating with a certificate in technological entrepreneurship were Andrew John Schnoebelen, Armond August Luthens, and Samuel Lewey.
