Three Iowa schools have been selected for the University of Iowa College of Engineering Femineer(TM) school program. They are Beckman Catholic High School, Dyersville, IA; Highland Middle School, Riverside, IA; and Linn-Mar High School, Marion, IA.

The Adopt-a-School Program assists schools in starting up the UIowa COE Femineer Program at their sites for the 2018-2019 academic year. Teachers will be trained August 6-8 at the Kirkwood Regional Center at the University of Iowa in Coralville, IA.  The program engages participants through highly creative, hands-on activities. By engaging with real-world applications, Femineer™ students acquire the technical knowledge and practical skills necessary to become confident and strong in their future careers.

The funding to support the Femineer™ Adopt-a-School Program was generously raised through the University of Iowa Center for Advancement We are PHIL GOLDrush Campaign.

The Femineer™ Program was created and funded by Cal Poly Pomona’s College of Engineering in 2013 to inspire additional females to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) in their education and career. The program provides K-12 students with project-based learning, female engineering student mentors, and opportunities to visit Cal Poly Pomona, while building a sustainable program and community for current and future STEM leaders.

The University of Iowa became a Femineer™ Affiliate in 2016. Initial seed funding for Femineers™ was provided by the Southeast Iowa STEM Innovation Fund and the University of Iowa College of Engineering Project Lead The Way Program. It is the first university affiliate outside of California. The University of Iowa College of Engineering Femineer™ Program was piloted during the 2017-2018 school year with two cohorts in the state of Iowa.
