Several UI Civil and Environmental Engineering faculty members, alumni, and students were honored last week at the annual meeting of the Iowa Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) in Ames, IA.

Civil Engineering undergraduate student Michelle Riedinger was presented with the UI Outstanding Senior Award.  She was co-leader of the Corn Monument revival last year, and currently serves as the UI/ASCE student chapter president.

Civil Engineering seniors Mitch Wantock and Austin Trumbull received ASCE student scholarships. Wantock served as last year’s Steel Bridge team co-captain, and Trumbull is serving as this year’s co-captain.

The newly elected Iowa Section ASCE board was sworn in.  It includes Civil Engineering alumni Ben Cole (president), Aaron Granquist (vice president), and Brian Boelk (membership coordinator). Serving in other roles include Civil Engineering alumni Joe Spradling (past president) and Brian Willham.  Aaron Granquist and Brian Willham also serve on the university's Civil and Environmental Engineering Advisory Board. UI MBA graduate Mike Barkalow was elected and sworn in as secretary.

Jerry Schnoor, Allen S. Henry Chair in Engineering, professor of civil and environmental engineering, and co-director of the UI Center for Global and Regional Environmental Research was honored with an ASCE Life Membership.
