Research conducted by the University of Iowa Public Policy Center, National Advanced Driving Simulator, and Department of Neurology in the UI Hospitals & Clinics is featured in the 2017 report from the Toyota Collaborative Safety Research Center (CSRC).  All are partners of the center.

By collaborating on research with the best and brightest from universities, hospitals and researcher institutions across North America and by sharing the results with academics, government and the rest of the automotive industry, the CSRC is working to advance transportation safety and help reduce the number of traffic injuries and fatalities.

The UI featured projects are:

• University of Iowa/University of Wisconsin -- Driver Model for Crash Avoidance Technology (Phase 1 and 2)
• University of Iowa Medical School -- Measuring Use and Impact of the Vehicle Technologies on Older Driver Safety
• University of Iowa/University of Washington -- Track Analytics and Time Series Analytics of Driver Behavior

Since January 2011, the CSRC has acted as a catalyst for the advancement of transportation safety research in North America. With an initial funding of $50 million from Toyota, as well as engineering and scientific resources from within and outside of Toyota, the collaborative approach to safety seeks to benefit the entire automotive industry.

The CRSC approach is unique by seeking out critical areas of study and gaps in existing safety knowledge, proactively identifying research partners with relevant expertise, and sharing talent, technology, and data to deliver results that can benefit all of society.
