More than 5,000 donors contributed a total of $68 million to the College of Engineering during the University of Iowa and University of Iowa Foundation’s For Iowa. Forever More: The Campaign for the University of Iowa campaign.

The successful conclusion of the campaign was announced today. More than 272,000 UI alumni and friends--enough to fill Kinnick Stadium nearly four times--contributed more than $1.975 billion to help the UI remain at the forefront of education, research, and health care.

Engineering alumni and friends provided gifts during the campaign to support:

  • Undergraduate scholarship support
  • Faculty chairs and professorships
  • Facilities enhancements, including a new annex to accommodate record growth
  • The Excellence Endowment to support the college’s five departments (mechanical and industrial, civil and environmental, chemical and biochemical, electrical and computer, and biomedical engineering)
  • Grand Challenge Scholars Fund
  • NEXUS Engineering and the Arts
  • Hanson Center for Technical Communication
  • Water Sustainability Initiative Fund
  • Core support, for needs across the college

"We are again so grateful for the support given through this campaign by loyal alumni, friends, and corporate partners of the College of Engineering," Alec Scranton, dean of Engineering, said. "This level of support is a testimonial to the academic and research vision the college has taken over the years to educate the engineer...and something more. Giving back to your alma mater is never taken for granted, whether it is financial or through other means such as mentoring and program participation. But those who did give, and who do give, continue to invest in all that our college stands for."

Chair of the successful campaign was Engineering alumnus Mark Bogue (BSCE 1982), president of Hi-Way Products, Inc., Ida Grove, IA.

The UI Foundation is the preferred channel for private contributions that benefit all areas of the UI, and its mission is to promote the UI’s commitment to excellence through engagement and philanthropy.
