Members of the student chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers were recognized during the national conference held October 29-November 3 in Minneapolis, MN.

The chapter was recognized for the 13th consecutive year with an Outstanding Student Chapter Award.  David Murhammer serves as faculty advisor to the group.

Elizabeth Zimmerman was one of 15 students to receive the Donald F. and Mildred Topp Othmer National Scholarship Award of $1,000.  The award recognizes outstanding academic achievement and involvement in student chapter activities.

Adam Weis received the Donald F. Othmer Sophomore Academic Excellence Award.  The award is presented to one student in each student chapter for the highest scholastic grade point average during his or her freshman and sophomore years.

Each year, chemical engineers from a designated company devise and judge a student contest problem that typifies a real, working, chemical engineering design situation. The problem's solution requires a wide range of skills in calculation and evaluation of both technical data and economic factors. The SAChE award is presented to teams and individuals from the AIChE Student Design Competition for designs that apply appropriate principles of chemical process safety.  The Jack Wehman Award was presented to University of Iowa team members Vincent LaPelusa, Will Dougherty and Carson Hemphill.

The Ted Ventrone, Ephraim Scheier & Walt Silowska Team Award was team members Austin McKee, Nicole Loch, Carrie Lindberg and Andrea Diaz.
